Small mirror
(with metal shelf)
I aqquired a number of very old Beech wood boards that had been used as planking under a parquet floor in an apartment that had been built in 1952 in Veliko Turnovo bulgaria. We know this because during the removal of the old flooring a small slip of paper was found with the name and date of the person who installed it. This wood was full of nail holes and looked almost white from years of dust. Beech is a very hard, very beautiful wood, which was revealed after some sanding and oiling with Boiled Linseed Oil. These mirrors are solid wood framed with solid planked backing plates. I've made three so far and hope to make more of out of other upcycled lumber when I can. You will see some small metal additions like little shelves and corner pieces and back hanger rods. These are made from old village gate hardware that has been stick welded and then laquered to keep from rusting more.

This mirror was sold to a young couple who hung it in their new bathroom, but horizontally. The shelf was remounted to the long edge.
this one has really wonderful grain.

I routed the edges to make the metal corner pieces pop out.
I really love the grain of this old wood. After decades of being under a floor, it's wonderful to see this repurposed into something beautiful.
You have to like nailholes....
